use the sign for good.
Who doesn’t love a nice hotel? The crisp white sheets, the fresh vacuum marks in the carpet, a sparkling toilet bowl you can see yourself in? Unfortunately, this squeaky-clean image equals bad business for the planet. If you cleaned your own home from top to bottom and laundered all the linens every single day, people might start to wonder about your sanity. But in a hotel that’s just considered good customer service. The amount of water, energy and chemicals needed to make the average hotel run is astronomical. Fortunately there are ways you can help lighten the load on your extended stay. Step 1: be sure to implement water saving programs when they’re presented (often in the form of a pre made card you can leave on the pillow or keeping towels off the floor). Step 2: make your own damn bed and skip housekeeping altogether. Yes, this is a harder pill to swallow but even if it’s just every other day. Keep the do not disturb sign on the door and you’ll literally save the world gallons of water and unnecessary chemicals down the drain. And if you really hate the idea of making your own bed then just don’t bother getting out of it – it is your vacation after all.
