Now that the plastic shopping bag has been eclipsed by the reusable, cloth bag, it seems all plastic is under the microscope. Which brings us to the sandwich bag. Oh so convenient, oh so wasteful. It helps to wash and reuse the baggies you already have but if you want to slip your food out of plastic and into something more comfortable while avoiding the heaviness of containers; opt for the wax baggie. Look for unbleached bags covered in paraffin, not petroleum based – Nature Value is a good choice. You can chuck them in the compost as they’re completely biodegradable, unlike plastic which never breaks down. If you run a restaurant they also make great take away bags in place of plastic, tinfoil and styrofoam (which we just gotta say is pure evil and banned in certain parts of the world). Wax on!
