March’s Product of the Month: TOMS Shoes

For March, we’re excited to introduce you to TOMS world-changing shoes. Not only are these shoes comfy, stylish and produced using environmentally respectful methods, each pair purchased means a pair is given to a child in need. That’s right: one pair for you, one pair for someone else. How cool is that?

TOMS was born in 2006 when founder Blake Mycoskie was traveling throughout South America and living in Argentina. “I was overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little,” Mycoskie says. “And I was instantly struck with the desire – the responsibility – to do more.” TOMS was created with a singular mission: To make life more comfortable. TOMS accomplishes this through its ultra lightweight design and the company’s commitment to match every pair purchased with a donated pair to a child in need. Available in eighteen colors and combinations for men, women and kids (Tiny TOM’s!), TOMS shoes are inspired by Alpargatas, the trusted utility shoe of Argentine workers. The shoes are composed of high quality, durable materials including lightweight, breathable canvas, resilient soles and soft leather in soles for maximum comfort.

TOMS functions under the credo of No Sweatshops and all of the materials and products are produced and manufactured in Argentina under the strictest guidelines, ensuring both fair labor practices and minimal impact on the environment.

Since 2006, 10,000 pairs of shoes have been personally delivered by TOMS to kids in Argentina and 50,000 pairs to kids in South Africa. In 2008 TOMS dropped more than 200,000 pairs of shoes around the world. Today, TOMS makes bi-weekly shoe drops in Argentina and 5 days a week in Ethiopia to kids most at-risk of contracting disfiguring Podoconiosis.

With more than 100 styles to choose from, there’s a TOMS shoe for everyone. We love ours, and we love to give them as gifts, too! Giving TOMS is easy through their website. We especially love the gift set that pairs the documentary, “For Tomorrow: The TOMS Shoes Story” with a free pair of shoes for your favorite giftee. Of course, you can also buy TOMS in stores.
