April’s Product of the Month: The Bicycle

To find April’s Product of the Month you may only need to go as far as your garage or your basement. This month, we’re highlighting everyone’s favorite two-wheeled friend: the bicycle! One part childhood toy, one part transportation device, the bike is back in a major way, helping you get from A to B while shrinking your carbon footprint.

The bicycle is the most efficient self-powered means of transportation, since 99% of the energy expended by the rider goes directly to the pedals. 1.4 billion worldwide users can’t be wrong, right? Not only is riding your bike inexpensive (no insurance or parking fees), it produces no toxic emissions and is a great form of exercise. Plus, it’s fun! Remember the thrill of learning to ride, and that first trip without training wheels? Reclaim your childhood by dusting off the old banana-seat and taking a ride down memory lane. If it’s been a while since you pedaled around town, give cycling another try – it’s as easy as, well, riding a bike!

If you own a bicycle already, a basic tune-up won’t cost much money to get you back on the road. Should you find yourself in need of a new model (powder blue clouds may not still be your style), head to the local bike peddler (ha ha) for some personal assistance picking a style that’s right for you. These days it’s easy to find a lightweight, inexpensive bike to get you tooling around town in no time. Already know which bike you’re looking for? Consider looking for it at the local thrift store, garage sales or even at an online auction site. These are also great resources for important safety and style accessories, such as helmets, wrist-guards, tassels and bells.

Riding a bike will keep your car parked, which will keep your footprint light. Hop on a bike and ride toward a greener future. See you on the road!
