BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)… Everywhere!
Every year, Americans throw away nearly 100 billion plastic bags and only a teeny tiny percentage of those bags are recycled (0.06%). Next time you make a small purchase, consider declining the bag and carrying your goods or storing them in your purse. Keep the bags you have acquired at home, the office, in the trunk of your car or wrap one around your bike so you’ll always have it. Another great alternative to the plastic bag is a canvas or material tote. They can be reused over and over and don’t have to be ugly – throw on your favorite patch or bring back iron on decals! Some of our favorite stores have started collecting and re using old bags or charging to give out new ones but the best offer discounts if you DON’T take a plastic offender. Ask your local retailer if there’s anything they can do to help curb this bag bummer.
