for here or to go?

Going out to dinner is always a fun indulgence, but when you can’t clean your plate and it comes down to the time where you must decide whether to box it up or throw it out, think hard: will you really eat it later? Many of us have unknowingly trained ourselves to always box it up, perhaps because we don’t want to waste it or offend the chef by throwing it out. But a recent survey estimates that 40% of the time, your to-go box will sit in the fridge and be thrown out a few days later. It’s okay to say “It was wonderful and I am finished.” if you know you’ll most likely be purging an unnecessary box later in the week. You’ll save a paper box and yourself the guilt.
Never finish the plate and totally love leftovers? Consider carrying a wee tupperware to dine with you. Most restaurants will be thrilled that they get to keep an extra box – and that you were so thoughful to plan ahead.
Bon appetit!
