June’s Product of the Month: BioBags
![]() |
We’ll try not to be too, eh-em, corny when we talk about how obsessed we are with BioBags, but it’s hard not to be. BioBags look like a plastic sack, feel like a plastic sack (actually a bit softer), and hold up like a plastic sack, but they aren’t plastic – they are made of corn!
The material is actually called Mater-Bi, the first completely biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. Adhering to strict guidelines and testing, Mater-Bi has been certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute to meet the ASTM D6400 specification.
BioBags are catching on quickly, too. We’ve seen them offered at parks as a green way to pick up after your dog, at grocery stores as an alternative to the paper-or-plastic phenomena. Recently, to promote their residential food waste collection, the city of San Francisco sent 100,000 rolls of BioBags to residents to help educate them on the importance of diverting food and other biodegradable waste from entering landfills.

cool! I’m gonna try for my lunch at my school Ithink it’s so great!
I love this one and I think that my dogs will too. They try to be earth friendly by eating grass and fertilizing the yard naturally. I heart your site! Lia (Lani’s sis)
this looks great. i know most people throw out so much garbage every year so something biodegradable would be a good way to not add to the waste…plus the stuff inside the bags will degrade better.
Last summer I was fortunate enough to be hired at our regions Works Departmet at the recycling depot. It was a big eye opener to the various bags and there levels of acceptance within the composting programs. Just thought I would share the website to my favourite! http://www.bagtoearth.com These bags are great! They dont leak, they dont smell, and fit great on a counters or even in the fridge during the summer. They have various different sizes and they even stand up on there own without the bin.
Im very happy to see more and more people going green!
Keep up the great work ladies!
I was skeptical at first about these bags, thinking they might not be as strong or have some other gotch’a associated with them. While I would be putting auto-parts into these bags, I’m glad to say I was wrong and these bags are a perfect substitute for all your garbage cans around your house!
great idea – great endorsement – this is a great product we’ve been selling for years!
